Laboratorio Saccardi

The Laboratorio Saccardi is a duo formed by Vincenzo Profeta (Palermo 1977) and Marco Barone (Palermo 1978), able to express themselves with different languages (from painting, to video, to photography) in the sign of a declared playful and desecrating intent. Their work focuses mainly on two themes: the mockery of the star-system of art and the derision of the intellectual tout-court.

Laboratorio Saccardi is a collective founded in 2002, composed by two Sicilian artists Vincenzo Profeta (1977) and Marco Leone Barone (1978), both born in Palermo. They attended the Accademy of Fine Arts of Palermo. Their art, which combines different media from videos to paintings, is iconoclast and desecrating. Amongst their projects remarkable are Casa Aut, an exhibition curated and organized by the Sicilian collective inside the house of the mob boss Tano Badalamenti in Terrasini, in memory of Peppino Impastato, dozens of artists from all over Italy took part to this exhibit. Then they realized La Robba a project about the rediscovery of Sicilian folklore represented by the typical Sicilian cart, decorated with images of the Mafia massacres, instead of the traditional  knightly deeds, now part of the Mafia Museum in Salemi.

In 2014 they realized Anima Mundi a statue of Virgin Mary made of euros donated by an entire religious community, artwork installed on church façade, church painted by Borremans, in the neighborhood Capo of Palermo. Laboratorio Saccardi also collaborated with Enzo Cucchi in the exhibition entitled Cagliari at Gam of Palermo. The collective took part to several solo and group shows in Italy and abroad, such as Prague Biennale in 2005, Italia Ora curated by Achille Bonito Oliva at Andersen Museum in Rome in 2011, the IX Biennale di Shangai at the Contemporary Art Museum of Shangai in China in 2012, the Mostra Praestigium Contemporary Artists from Italy, curated by Luca Beatrice, at the Foundation Sandretto Re Rebaudengo di Torino in 2017, the exhibit Pan Hormos. Palermo Città Porto in 2018 for the designation of Palermo as Italian Capital of Culture 2018.

They won for two years on a row, 2004 and 2005, the prize Genio of Palermo.

Their artworks are part of the following collections: Collection Farnesina of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, permanent collection of the Museo della Mafia e del Risorgimento in Salemi, permanent collection of the Contemporary Art Museum of Sicily Palazzo Riso in Palermo, permanent collection of the Modern Art Gallery Sant'Anna of Palermo.
